Growing up in rural Lancaster county, Lynn Stoltzfus always dreamed of farming for a living. In 1980 he married Wendy Weis, who shared his vision for a rural, country lifestyle. Since then they have pursued their agricultural dreams, and raised three children in the process. In 2006 Lynn and Wendy purchased a 90 acre farm in Somerset county and Windy Hill Farms was born. In December of 2014 Justin and his wife Krista moved to the farm to help grow the farm business.
Lynn & Wendy
Lynn has spent most of his life around agriculture. He has been raising horses since he was 10 years old and started working on neighboring farms once he turned 15. After he was married, he worked full-time on a beef farm in northern PA. In 1986 he started working with SKE Construction, and remained with that company for 19 years. Beginning as a general laborer, Lynn eventually began taking on more responsibility, first as a construction foreman, and eventually moving into the office to take on managerial responsibilities. When SKE closed it’s doors, Lynn created his own construction business which ran successfully for 11 years.
It’s not easy feeding a hard working farm family, but Wendy Stoltzfus has learned how and in the process has become a far better than average cook. Ever since her 3 children were young, she has planted the garden and canned much of the produce the family ate all year long. This enables her to not only bring her gardening experience, but also her culinary expertise to her clients at the farmer’s markets. Directing much of the produce planting, Wendy combines her love of wholesome food with her retail expertise to form positive relationships with many of our clients. It is common for our customers to leave with not only new fruits and vegetables, but also new recipes to try out at home.
Justin, Krista, Karalynn & Ezra
Justin Stoltzfus draws from an extensive background in both management and horticulture to provide assistance not only on the farm, but also at the farmer’s markets. Justin was active in FFA and took several ag management courses in high school. He also has experience in both greenhouse management and commercial landscaping.
Graduating from Millersville University with a BA in Art and an option in Commercial Art, Krista Stoltzfus has made a career out of helping companies connect with their clients. Having spent 5 years as marketing coordinator for First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union has given her a practical understanding of marketing and building a product brand. In addition to marketing for Windy Hill Farms, Krista has a successful wedding photography and graphic design business called Higher Focus Studios.
Their daughter, Karalynn, has been such a joy to have around the farm and now that she is getting older she is able to help more with chores, picking produce, etc. She has been a huge help with baby Ezra! Both her and Ezra are commonly Windy Hill Farm models in many photos featured on our facebook page. We look forward to watching both of them learn and grow along with us on our family run farm!
